Armani joins Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren in switching to synthetic alternatives, while British designer Stella McCartney has long followed a “vegetarian” philosophy, shunning fur, leather and feathers.

The Humane Society International called Armani’s pledge “probably the most powerful message yet that killing animals for their fur is never fashionable”, adding that designers who continue to use fur “are looking increasingly isolated”.

If you didn’t already know, faux fur is basically fake fur. It is any material made out of synthetic fibers that are designed to look like fur. During the fall and winter seasons, fur becomes a high fashion statement along with keeping us humans warm and cozy. The Armani Group made an agreement with Fur Free Alliance to announce their commitment to stop the use of animal fur for all their products. This announcement made it clear that designers and consumers can enjoy luxury items without having to support animal cruelty. Mr. Armani is very well known in the fashion world and he has always been a trendsetter. His latest announcement is evidence that innovation and compassion are the future of fashion.

Faux fur isn’t a completely new concept, but Giorgio Armani’s announcement has made things more evident and clear. Faux fur looks the same as real fur, so why harm animals when there is a better and easier alternative?
